Abidjan Autonomous Port (PAA) :
As the leading port in West Africa, with overall goods traffic expected to reach 28.7 million tonnes by 2022, the Port Autonome d’Abidjan is also the first African port to be certified ISO 9001 (since 2008) and ISO 14001 (since 2015).
It handles 90% of the country’s foreign trade and acts as a port hub for landlocked countries in the hinterland (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger). It has 34 berths over 6 km; 140,000 m2 of warehousing and hangars; a 1,000-hectare stretch of water, 800 hectares of undeveloped land and 105,000 m2 of developed open spaces.
Its assets include:
- a container terminal with handling rates of around 60 movements per hour per gantry crane ;
- a fishing terminal that handles over 600,000 tonnes of seafood products, including almost 250,000 tonnes of tuna a year ;
- a Ro-Ro terminal enabling port operators to handle certain types of traffic efficiently, particularly vehicles ;
- a ship repair terminal with several workshops capable of repairing all types of vessel ;
- a mineral terminal handling 15,000 tonnes of ore per day ;
- a fruit terminal that processes an average of 250,000 tonnes of fruit a year ;
- a terminal dedicated to bagging flour, fertiliser and rice. Output is 2,000 to 5,000 tonnes per day ;
- an oil terminal with a berth on an offshore buoy capable of accommodating vessels of over 250,000 tonnes with unlimited draught, two berths for loading and unloading petroleum products linked to the Société Ivoirienne de Raffinage pipeline facilities and five wharvess ;
- a cereals terminal handling between 200,000 and 300,000 tonnes of wheat a year, with an operating rate of almost 3,000 tonnes a day.

Port Autonome de San Pedro (PASP)
The Port of San-Pedro is located in the south-west of the country and is the world’s leading cocoa export port. It is accessible via a good road network linking it to its hinterland. In addition, there are fully tarmacked roads classified as Community roads under the Inter-State Transit Convention for the transport of goods in transit (to or from neighbouring countries).
Overall cargo traffic at the port reached 6.241 million tonnes in 2022. Exports were driven by cocoa, rubber, nickel, palm oil and cotton.
ISO 9001 version 2015 (quality), ISO 14001 version 2015 (occupational health and safety) and ISO 45001 version 2018 (environment), the Port Autonome de San-Pedro is the first port on the West African coast to obtain the latest versions of these three (03) certificates for all its activities and all its sites.
Port activity has also benefited from the commissioning of a cold store for seafood products in August 2020, and a multi-purpose industrial terminal (TIPSP) with 270 linear metres of quays, inaugurated in September 2022.
Some technical characteristics of the commercial port :
- Deep-water port, accessible 24 hours a day, protected by 2 piers 145 m and 265 m long ;
- Access channel dredged to -13.5 m, 650 m long and 150 m wide, with unlimited air draught thanks to direct maritime access;
- A 33 ha water body with a turning circle 450 m in diameter and an 11 m draught ;
- 842 m of linear quayside ;
- 9 to 12 m draught at quayside ;
- 10 ha of paved in-bond medians ;
- 3 warehouses with a total surface area of 13,800 m2, including a 3,000 m2 cold store ;
- 1 cement dock on Duc d'Albe ;
- 1 cereal station ;
- 1 underground pipeline for pumping palm oil (250 t/h) ;
- 10 refrigeration vents for containers ;
- 1 complete headlight and beacon system ;
- A concessionary container terminal equipped with 4 mobile cranes to speed up the processing of goods in transit.
